    Description

    Welcome to my ebay store:
I have been slowly de-accessioning my antiques collection over the past 6 years and am now getting to some of my misc. dolls and porcelain so DO check back. It takes time to photograph and upload descriptions so it's a slow steady listing.
I have a large collection of half dolls and pincushion dolls I will be downsizing. Simply running out of room, and I am the last of the Colorado doll doctors so my client's dolls need space as does my ever expanding stock of supplies etc. Check my store and follow, as I already put my antique German porcelain dolls on sale this month! If you are starting a doll collection, I have a few Wonderful dolls listed at a Steal price, I am losing money but need to make the room.
THIS is one of a few half dolls in my store. I buy my dolls from estates, collectors auctions so they are always better quality and prized by myself and their former owners. I have at least one antique pin cushion doll in my shop, and a couple of half dolls as well already.
This half doll is in her original wired skirt, the holes often used to either stitch the doll to a pincushion, or wire for a lamp or skirt. This is not a lamp! It has the original thread wrapped wire frame work to hold the full skirt open and for doll to stand.
She is wearing a pale lavender taffeta skirt with tiny ribbon roses trim. See photos. I suspect due to the excellent condition of the skirt, the original fabric may have been replaced some time ago by this fabric. Or she was just kept in a very well preserved state. Low cut white sleeveless type bodice top.
She is white porcelain with the early William Goebel crown mark and BAVARIA on the back. A bit hard to see as skirt is in the way but see photos where I got as close as possible. 18th C style powdered wig type hair do with flowers. Numbered as well 4301/3
I think this lady is modeled on Lady Hamilton or so I have seen in more recent copies. She is an antique half doll, not a modern repro...see the well modeled details like the fingers. Later circa 1920s and 1930s half dolls are usually less detailed with generally flat hands as part of the body. This lady has one hand on breast the other up on her high hair do. Ribbon around neck as a choker. She stands around 8" tall from base to top of head.
    A
bout Goebel Co. started by father and son. By 1893 the company was owned solely by William, who changed the name to
    William Goebel Porzellanfabrik
which is also when Goebel began producing fine bisque dolls of all kinds; small all bisque dolls, bisque Dolly Face shoulder or socket heads on kid or composition jointed bodies, bent limb character Baby dolls,
    half dolls
, bathing beauties, ballerinas and Bécassine dolls.
    After
    1900
    Goebel began using the
    crown
    above the
    WG
initials mark. This doll has that mark.
    A little FYI re Bavaria
: home to nearly 13 million inhabitants, is located in the southeast of
    Germany
and is the largest of the 16 federal states of
    Germany
    .
When France declared war on Prussia in 1870, the south
    German
    states Baden, Württemberg, Hessen-Darmstadt and
    Bavaria
joined the Prussian forces (whereas Austria
    did
not) and ultimately joined the Federation, which was renamed Deutsches Reich (
    German
    Empire) in 1871 while Austria
    did
    not.
